Things Are Really Moving Fast

Gonna try to make a concerted effort to update more often . . . it's just crazy when  you're swept up in the buzz of the novel release.

 

Reviews have been pouring and, and I'm thrilled, and stunned to say, they've been 5 Stars across the board, including an upcoming review from Kirkus Magazine. 


The 2025 American Fiction Award was a total surprise as was finding out that Deadly Vision is now a Finalist for the Clive Cussler Adventure Writing Award.  We'll see how that goes. . . fingers crossed. 


More fun, from my part has been being invited as a guest on some very cool podcasts, like Jeff Circle's Writer's Dossier,  the Castle of Horror Podcast, an upcoming episode of Thriller Pitch podcast, and tomorrow I'll be a guest on Suit Up! with Terrence Layhew.  Man, that is so fun.  There's nothing more fun than talking writing, plotting and craft with some very talented writers. 


Also, got my first invitations (Yay!!!) to join in as a guest for a couple of book clubs.  In August will be an in person guesting at the Diablo Country Club Women's Book Club, which has been going on for decades (and they've already sent me a list of some amazing questions), and by Zoom I'll join in another decades old book club thanks to the invite of  a woman named Colleen.   I really look forward to those.

  I hope y'all don't mind, but I recently received the first professional, independent review of my novel,  Deadly Vision . The novel hasn't been published yet, but my publisher sought out an independent editor to review the book prior to accepting it. Not only did this give him impetus to publish the novel but it also gave him a review to help sell it. Gems Amongst the Dust - Lessons from the Slush Pile

I've been working on Deadly Vision for more years than I care to count, and received more rejection letters than you'd care to count, or would reasonably subject yourself to.  But I believed in the story and knew that others would too, if I could only write it in a way that would capture their imaginations and attention.  So I went to writing conferences, took classes, read many books, and constantly worked to improve my writing and my storytelling skills.   But one surprising place that provided an immeasurable amount of guidance and information was rejection letters.  In general, I never accepted rejection letters as a rejection of the story -- just where I was with it at that moment in time, with that particular agent.  I even went so far as to file my rejection letters not in a file named "Rejections" but in one I named "Try Again."   Once the story was better, they'd hear from me again, whether they wanted to or not.  But before I filed...
