Quick Update -- Things Are Getting Closer.
I've been quiet for a bit, not because things haven't been happening, but because I've been waiting.
I wanted to keep you updated of my journey in having Deadly Vision published, and one, major part of that journey, is waiting.
Waiting.
Just because a publisher has sent a contract, and just because all the terms have been agreed and the papers signed, doesn't mean the process is in motion. For me, it meant the process was in queue.
Now I was ok with that. My publisher at Penmore Press told me from the beginning it would be a 6 month wait, so I was prepared. Signed the papers in July, and finally started seeing action early February, so pretty much dead-on with the 6 month wait.
Now, it's moving in fast-motion. Like Saquon Barkley tearing down the sidelines to the end zone. Just this week, I got the proofs for the cover. How's that for exciting. My friend, and artist at Ripple Music (my record label) created the graphics, and I think he did an amazing job. The back cover quote is from Robert Dugoni, the New York Times Bestselling author of several legal thrillers. I had taken a course from him many years ago and reached out asking if he'd be willing to give me a blurb, and he very graciously agreed. Lesson there, always connect with your teachers, and don't be shy.
About two weeks ago, I received the initial formatted draft of the novel. Now, I don't know what process was used to create this draft, but it wasn't very author friendly. Every word, sentence that I'd italicized had been converted back to regular text. I use italics to differentiate a characters thoughts, or simply for emphasis. So, part of the process there was re-reading the whole book, looking for errors. Other things, like formatting, and placement of graphs had to be addressed, to get the book to look and read as I wished. Got that done.
Yesterday, I received several emails from my editor, going over my corrections and making suggestions on how to clean certain things up. I expect another round of that to happen before the final draft is ready.
So, a little insight into what the publishing process is like at this point.
Hang tight, more to come.
