A Cutting Edge Thriller on the Suit Up! Podcast

Image
I was incredibly honored to be a guest of Terrance Layhew on the Suit Up! podcast, talking about craft, creativity, inspiration, and . . . comic books! Thanks so much for having me, and so thrilled that you enjoyed Deadly Vision as much as you did.  Check it out.    Normal warning . . . I babble.  A lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=gVEvKlmbemY&fbclid=IwY2xjawMHJ4tleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHpcueq0Ah1qFoi7LR7shGXm69NEqWAWrSF84-asnqQvNktEhYXHsZ6r2xAff_aem_R_FeT6TPovoiYzlsEEg5sA

Simply, Made Me Smile

Just got this amazing review and had to share.  Lots to digest here. "Deadly Vision is straight-up next-level thriller vibes—like if Black Mirror met House but with that extra political edge. Dr. Taylor Abrahms is this tech genius trying to push medical VR into the mainstream, but everyone’s out here scheming to shut him down. The book’s got that perfect mix of biotech geekery and high-stakes drama, with sabotage, murder, and a dash of political chaos that keeps you hooked. It’s smart, fast-paced, and hits emotional beats without getting cheesy.    If you’re into brainy thrillers that feel like a Netflix binge but on paper, this one’s a must. Definitely a page-turner for anyone who loves tech, drama, and a little bit of that underdog hustle energy."

Ripple Library: Author Chat With...Bre Coleman

How do you get inspired to write?   I usually get inspired by things I encounter, conversations I overhear, or quotes that stick with me. From there, I just start putting words together and let the story lead me.   How do you deal with writer’s block?   When I hit writer’s block, I step away, read something, watch TV, or go people-watching while wine tasting. Overhearing tipsy wine conversations is always entertaining. It helps me reset and relax so I can come back to the page with fresh ideas.   What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?   Is my baby daddy alive or dead? To me, he’s gone. To the world… 🤷🏾‍♀️   Slightly more mysterious lol.   The world thinks he’s still out there. I know better, because I buried him in my mind long ago.   What are you currently working on?   I’m working on another thriller. The working title is The Brother, however that’s subject to change.   Family should have your back. But what...

Ripple Library: Author Chat With...Cole Chase

The latest installment in our running conversations with authors making big moves these days. Today, at the Ripple Library we feature Cole Chase How do you get inspired to write? Writing is a compulsion for me. If I hear an awesome song, it stirs my creativity and makes me want to write. If I see an awesome movie, it stirs my creativity and I want to write. See Cirque du Soleil? Gotta write! Great metal band? Gotta write! It has always been in me. I don’t need special inspiration to write; the hard part is carving out time to write. How do you deal with writer’s block? I wrote marketing copy for years. When the assignment was “make a slogan for this product,” I’d just brute force it: “Okay, with no self-editing, I am going to write 25 slogans for this product and see what comes out.” But now I mostly write novels, and it’s easier to feel stuck. In that case I don’t feel “blocked” as much as I think I’ve taken a wrong turn in the story. Sometimes I just have to retreat for a day ...

An Unparalleled Reading Experience

Being a writer is a lonely existence, especially as you release your work out into the world . . . then wait to hear a response. Then, from out of nowhere, a review like this comes in -- and the sun shines again. Thanks to Independent Book Review "Deadly Vision is a tech-savvy political thriller that explores the backstabbing corruption of electoral campaigns, the weight of childhood trauma, and the cost of following dreams that aim too high. There are a lot of appealing elements to Deadly Vision. The political machinations going on in the background of Taylor’s life, his carefully buried past that surfaces bit by bit, and the relationships he has with those closest to him. The most fascinating aspect has got to be the Virtual Heart Project. A lot of media portrays virtual reality, but it’s usually shown as entertainment. Here, virtual reality is imagined through the lens of something vital and lifesaving. The project that Taylor and his team work on aims to repair heart damage ...

Have You Ever Gotten Into A Novel That Comes With It's Own Reading Soundtrack?

Image
Besides the day job as a surgeon and an aspiring novelist, I also own a record label, Ripple Music -- which for 15 years has become one of the world's leading record labels for what's called heavy psychedelic rock.   With a large fanbase, I was wondering how I could integrate the novel with the record label, and came up with the idea of a "reading soundtrack."  Not music to play as you read (don't know about you, but I can't do that.  I like silence when I read.) But rather an album of the book, where each song, put together, line up to tell the story in music, mood, feeling, or lyric, of Deadly Vision.  I went to some of our biggest artists, like Wino (of The Obsessed), Dave Angstrom (of Hermano),  Borracho, Gary Arce (of Yawning Man) and many others, and gave them a brief paragraph of the book.  They went to work and turned in an amazing album of mood and texture that accompanies and fleshes out the book.  Speaking of the band, Borracho....
